Shallow water in mashes. Hebei, Hubei, Hunan, Liaoning [India, Japan].

An assumingly annual form of this variety has been called as var./form. annua by a number of authors, and as in the Chinese version of the Flora of China. We are not certain if this annual form constitute a real taxon. It may possibly be the fruiting plant of the first-year seedling. It appears in northern part of the geographic area of var. tikushiensis (i.e. North China and Japan) where it cannot be survive through the winter. In southern area it may become biennial or short-lived perennial developing a short rhizome and such condition appears to the var. tikushiensis. For this reason, the so-called var./form. annua is here included in var. tikushiensis. For nomenclature of F. annua of Asian authors, see T. Koyama in J. Jap. Bot. 63(3): 86-95, pl. I-III. 1988.
