春黄菊族   chun huang ju zu

Shrubs, subshrubs, or annual or perennial herbs, aromatic. Leaves alternate, rarely opposite, fasciculate or in rosettes, pinnatisect, pinnatifid, lobed, serrulate, serrate, or dentate, rarely entire. Capitula heterogamous, with both marginal radiate female ligulate and central hermaphroditic tubular florets, or homogamous with only hermaphroditic tubular florets. Phyllaries in 3 or more rows, overlapping, usually with scarious margins and apices. Receptacle paleate or epaleate, rarely pilose or hirsute. Ray florets ligulate, female, fertile, sterile or neuter; limbs yellow or white, rarely blue-violet, pink, or reddish. Disk florets yellow, rarely whitish or red, usually 4- or 5-lobed. Pappus generally of rather few scarious scales, a corona, or an auricle. Pollen surface with or without spines.

Worldwide 110 genera, mainly concentrated in C Asia, the Mediterranean, and S Africa; 26 genera in China.

Genera distributed in China are divided into two groups: 1) group with spines on surface of pollen (e.g., Achillea, Argyranthemum; Chrysanthemum, Leucanthemella, Leucanthemum, Brachanthemum, Matricaria, Dendranthema, Tripleurospermum, Pyrethrum, Allardia, Hippolytia, Cancrinia, Ajania, Filifolium, Cotula); 2) group without spines on surface of pollen (e.g., Ajaniopsis, Kaschgarica, Artemisia, and Neopallasia).

This tribe includes well known vegetables (e.g., Chrysanthemum carinatum and C. segetum) and famous ornamental plants (e.g., Dendranthema morifolium). Insecticides are extracted from some species (e.g., Pyrethrum cinerarifolium). Some species are used medicinally (e.g., Artemisia capillaris).

Ed. note - please note Project Guidelines - exotic garden plants are not to be included but economically important cultivated plants are treated.
